Philippines Outreach

Dear Friends,

In October of 2008, I had an opportunity to visit the village and the elementary school I attended in the remote province of Bicol, Philippines. There are many changes in the environment where more houses are worn down, built with sticks, and small pieces of wood put together as their four walls. There are more children now playing around bare footed with dirty worn out clothing and many are malnourished. The land that once gave abundance fruit trees of many kinds is now desolate. The river that used to be clean with plenty of fishes and other resources are now filled with debris and pollution. The villager’s main source of living remained the same which are farming and fishing but in most cases, it is not enough for their own provisions. There is still only one school to accommodate 1st grade to high school students even with the increased population.

During my visit there, my heart was filled with compassion as I witnessed men and women including their young cultivate the land for farming in the heat of the day with their frail bodies due to lack of medical attention and food. There is no medical service available in this community. The nearest medical hospital, doctors, and medicines in this town is one hour away by bus. Transportation is very difficult to go to and from the medical locations. Besides the transportation challenge, many of them could not afford medical and dental services so they remained in their untreated condition and many die prematurely. A third-world country like Philippines especially in the small remote provinces, government assistance is non-existence.

With these, now is the time to make actions in assisting this poverty stricken community. The 3rd Hand Ministry’s goal is to bring free medical services to the community and help the villager build a small medical and dental clinic. This center will provide medicines and coach the basic healthy life style to the community.

We cannot accomplish this project alone. Your donation and your partnership with us are highly appreciated and very much needed as we dedicate our time and effort to our fellow men that are in desperate need. My compassion is to help them but it is not enough without putting it into action.
